We are all struggling with conflicting emotions over the past couple of days.
Rabbi Glasser shared this idea and the message helped me: The choices before the leaders of Israel are simply impossible. The enemies of the Jewish people, their collaborators throughout the world, and our “friends” who have tolerated this unimaginable horror with depraved moral conviction – have all brought us to a space where we must choose between babies held in captivity for hundreds of days and the inevitable consequences of releasing evil into the world.
Unfortunately, there really isn’t a coherent formulation of how moral, halachic, and holy people are expected to contend with this choice. The most anyone can reach for, is an affirmation that in life, sometimes we live within the tension and pain, of impossible circumstances, as Jews have for the entirety of our history. And we have no other option – than to do our best.
Servitude, suffering, and pain are all part of our story. But it’s not the ending. May we continue to pray, learn, and unify together and make our future brighter.
Shabbat Shalom
